SLIPKNOT DJ SID WILSON Talks About New Solo Project
August 31, 2010SLIPKNOT DJ Sid Wilson spoke to Billboard.com about his new solo project, SID, which has completed work on a full-length album for a tentative fall release, though a label deal is still being negotiated. Wilson describes the disc as "an eclectic mix of all the different styles of music I grew up listening to. There's a strong B-Boy influence in my music, 'cause I'm a DJ. I used to listen to a lot of SKINNY PUPPY and more mainstream things that came out of industrial, like NINE INCH NAILS. I was always influenced by the BEASTIE BOYS a lot and RUN-DMC and the way they mixed their rock influences in their hip-hop stuff." Songtitles set to appear on the CD include the planned first single, "Nervous Central", and "Flat Lace", which Wilson wrote five years ago for SLIPKNOT bassist Paul Gray, who died of an accidental drug overdose on May 24.
"It's just about the different struggles in his life," Wilson told Billboard.com, "and it was just my way of letting him know that I was always there for him and that I was aware of the things he had to deal with. It's definitely difficult (to sing). It's hard for me to even talk about it."
Fan-filmed video footage of SID performing the song "Nervous Central" on August 26, 2010 at the Val Air Ballroom in Des Moines, Iowa can be viewed below. (Note: The track doesn't properly kick in until around the 1:50 mark.) Wilson fronts the group, which also features guitarist 9 Ballz, drummer Big Mike, DJ "A-Roc Impossible" and back-up vocalist, Omaha rapper Jamazz.
